Our office is located in Cincinnati, so we serve many clients from nearby West Chester Township. It is a great place to call home, and there is a growing senior population in the area. This demographic subset is steadily expanding because the baby boomer generation is attaining senior citizen status.
Your active retirement years can be full of relaxation, travel, leisure activities, and quality time with your family members and friends. This being stated, you should be aware of the challenges that you may face during the twilight years that will inevitably follow. As elder law attorneys, this is our area of expertise, and you should definitely understand the facts so you can go forward in a fully informed manner.
Long-Term Care
It can be hard to imagine a time when you will not be able to handle all of your own day-to-day needs without help. When you have never experienced something, it is really impossible to fully grasp, but life can be very different when you are in your 80s and perhaps even older. If you live long enough to collect Social Security, your life expectancy is at least 85 years, so this is something to take seriously.
Medicare does not pay for in-home care or a stay in an assisted living community or a nursing home. This is a very big gap in the coverage, because this type of care is extremely expensive. Even if you get the assistance that you need in your home, in the greater West Chester area, the median charge is in the vicinity of $80,000 a year.
Butler County Elderly Services Program
The Butler County Elderly Services Program is a great resource for senior citizens. If you would like to see the different opportunities that are being offered, click the following link: Butler County Elderly Services Program.
Medicaid and Medicaid Waiver Programs
Medicaid will pay for a stay in a nursing home if you can obtain eligibility, but because it is a program that is intended for financially needy people, there are low income and asset limits. This being stated, most people that are in nursing homes use Medicaid to pay for it, because they take steps to gain eligibility.
Plus, if you can receive the care that you need in your own home, there is a Medicaid waiver that could potentially provide financial assistance. The monetary stipulations are not as stringent as they are for full-blown Medicaid coverage, so this is a big plus. You can check out this page to get some of the details: Ohio Medicaid-Benefits.gov.
Special Report on Medicaid Eligibility
Our elder law attorneys have established a robust library of special reports that cover many different important topics. One of them is devoted to Medicaid eligibility, and you can obtain some eye-opening information if you download your copy and spend some time with it. You can visit our special reports page to access this report, and there are many others available to you as well. Best of all, they are all being offered free of charge.
